As the first and only Science Fellow, I wrote news, profiles, and other content for HHMI’s internal and external communications. I researched HHMI postdoc outcomes, led a monthly journal club on diversity and inclusion in STEM, and designed and organized career development workshops for HHMI postdocs.

I developed content for NCI’s website and award-winning Cancer Currents blog, and edited content written by others. Topics included NCI priorities and initiatives, cancer research findings, and emerging public relations issues.

I wrote meeting summaries for NIH and EPA science and policy meetings. Topics I covered include children’s environmental health, cancer research, metabolomics, health disparities, nanotechnology, and many others.
Post-Doctoral Fellow (10/2011 – 8/2013)

I studied the genetic and physiological mechanisms of body size regulation in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster; collaboratively wrote and won research grants exceeding $1 million from NIH and NSF to support this research; mentored 5 undergraduate students.
Organizing Committee Member (2017 – present)
Co-organize the annual conference for science communicators in the South Central states (Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas).
Invited Speaker on Alt-Ac or Post-Ac Careers
Spoke at events about careers in science writing at NIH, HHMI/Janelia, the Johns Hopkins Postdoctoral Association, and the 2019 Evolution meeting. Reviewed a book proposal on PhD careers for Oxford University Press.
